The Clek Liing is a narrow infant car seat with three approved installation paths: rigid LATCH with the base, vehicle belt with the base, and a baseless European belt route. The base also has a belt tensioner, seven recline positions and a metal load leg.

Start with the manufacture-date label. Current Liings have a 30-pound maximum, while some seats manufactured before February 1, 2024 were labeled to 35 pounds. Never borrow the higher number from an older web page.

Important: the weight limit changed
Current US Liings are labeled for 4–30 pounds. Some Liings manufactured before February 1, 2024 were labeled to 35 pounds. That is why an older review, used-seat listing, or PDF may show a different number without necessarily being a typo.
Clek's current guidance says to stop at more than 30 pounds for newer seats, or more than 35 pounds for qualifying pre-February-2024 seats. Height and head-clearance rules also apply. Check the manufacture-date label, then choose the matching manual from Clek's Liing manual download page. Do not use the higher limit simply because you found it online.
How to use this owner's guide
The specifications below come from current manufacturer materials and US manuals. They cannot predict a baby's comfort, the clearance behind a specific driver or a three-across fit that has not been physically checked.
The most valuable hands-on test still happens in your own car. NHTSA notes that not every car seat fits every vehicle and recommends testing fit and getting help from a car-seat inspection station.
What stands out
A genuinely narrow carrier
At 16.9 inches wide, the Liing can free useful side-to-side space. The 13.2-inch base is narrower still. That can help beside another restraint or in a compact back row.
It does not guarantee three seats will fit. Door contours, seat-belt geometry, lower-anchor placement, bolsters, front-seat clearance, and the neighboring restraints all matter. A secure, independently installed seat is more important than reaching a theoretical three-across number.
Three useful installation paths
With the base, choose either rigid LATCH or the vehicle belt and built-in tensioner. Without the base, use the carrier's European belt path when the vehicle belt and seating position allow it. The three methods cover a primary car, a vehicle without usable lower anchors in the chosen position, and travel.

The metal load leg
The base's adjustable load leg reaches the vehicle floor and uses a red-to-green pressure indicator. Clek says it limits downward rotation and rebound and produced up to a 40% reduction in its injury measurements. That is a manufacturer-specific test claim, not a promise that every crash will produce the same result.
A load leg is not an anti-rebound bar. Read the Clek Liing load-leg guide before adjusting it or placing it over an underfloor storage compartment.
If the chosen position has an underfloor storage compartment, Clek says to use the leg there only when the vehicle manufacturer approves it. The car-seat manual cannot override the vehicle floor.
Recline adjustment after installation
The base offers seven recline positions designed to keep the carrier within its allowed angle range across different vehicle-seat slopes. Being able to adjust the recline sled after securing the base can save a full reinstall when the bubble or line is wrong.
That convenience does not replace the final checks. Use the recline range specified for the child's weight in the matching manual, confirm the installation is tight where the belt or LATCH path runs, and re-check the load-leg indicator when used.
Newborn insert rules
The Liing includes a body support cushion and headrest. Clek says both must be used when a child is under 11 pounds and the shoulders sit below the lowest harness slots. Above 11 pounds, the body cushion may remain until the shoulders reach the top harness slot, when it must come out.
For Liings manufactured after February 1, 2024, Clek says the headrest must remain for the entire use of the seat. Removing the body cushion can also change the correct harness-slot position, so check the harness at or below and closest to the shoulders again. Do not add aftermarket head supports, strap covers, positioners, or padding unless Clek expressly approves them for that exact seat.
Stroller compatibility
Liing uses approved Maxi-Cosi-style adapters on many stroller platforms. Clek's current chart includes selected models from UPPAbaby, Bugaboo, Stokke/BABYZEN, Mockingbird, Veer, Baby Jogger, and others.
The exact stroller generation and adapter matter. Several older adapters are discontinued even though a tested combination remains on the historical chart. Is the Clek Liing “safety rated”?
Clek says the current Liing conforms to applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, including current frontal and side-impact requirements. That is the required baseline for a child restraint sold in the US.
NHTSA does not publish a comparative crash-safety star score for child restraints. Its stars are ease-of-use ratings covering labels, instructions, installation features, and securing the child. NHTSA explicitly says a higher ease-of-use score does not mean the seat is safer in a crash. See the NHTSA rating explanation.
The better question is whether this seat fits your child, vehicle, and caregiver well enough to use correctly on every ride.

Vehicle-fit decision tree
The Liing setup is more likely to fit the job when you:
- need a narrow infant seat for a tight row;
- want rigid LATCH but also a strong vehicle-belt installation option;
- expect occasional baseless travel;
- value a load leg and installation indicators;
- already confirmed a tested adapter for your stroller; and
- can try the full carrier-and-base footprint in your car.
Stop and reassess the setup if the load leg is incompatible with the chosen vehicle floor, the base prevents a safe front-seat position, the carrier cannot be installed tightly, or the exact stroller adapter is not approved.
