Making my cards for the holiday is something that I’ve always enjoyed. This year I didn’t make my Christmas cards. I had too much going on and I really just ran out of time. I didn’t think it would be a huge deal. My family and friends get pictures and updates plenty throughout the year and really with the world of Social Media they are pretty informed. I was recently a part of an Elmer’s Project that was to make a New Years Card. I really was excited since I didn’t make my Christmas cards. What I discovered though was it made me incredibly sad that I DIDN’T do my Christmas cards. I actually enjoyed allowing my creativity flow and making the card and I’m going to show you my card and walk you through making one! Keep in mind, I made a New Years Card, but you are free to use different colors, styles and theme to make your card unique!

First I headed out to my local Wal-mart to gather some supplies. In the past, I’ve grabbed supplies from Wal-mart to work on my cards and projects. They don’t have a HUGE selection, but they do have some things. I was actually disappointed in the paper selection. I remember them having so much more in the past, so it was pretty disappointing. They did have a large selection of stickers and adhesives. As far as embellishments, they had some, not a ton, but enough. I like to use things like ribbon, staples and clips for cards so those things are usually in the office supplies area. I know they aren’t acid-free and I encourage people to use acid-free items when scrapbooking, but I tend to move away from them some with cards. After all, this card is just that a card and typically not something I am going to put in my scrapbook with my photos (when putting things with photos, you want to use acid-free items to preserve those photos).

As you can see, I decided to go with a couple Elmer’s adhesives for my card. First I got the Adhesive Squares. I’ve used these quite a few times and I love them! They always work and hold everything together perfectly! I chose the ones that are initially repositionable. I tend to place things and want to move them around after. Sometimes I will tack items in place with a little tiny piece of adhesive, this allows me to decide if that’s the placement I want before I move on. I grabbed a few different papers, which I would decide afterwards which I would use. I tend to make my cards “odd” sizes because I think it’s fun. Remember, there are no rules that cards have to be 3″x5″ or 5″x7″. Be creative!

I begin to assemble the card. I started with a black textured cardstock. I folded that in half to make a card. Then I added a piece of blue squared paper that was a little smaller then the card. This allowed me to put the alpha stickers on the black part of the card. I thought that would make the title stand out better then adding it to the pattern. I added an extra piece of white pearly paper (just a scrap I had laying around) to the front and added some ribbon with a small brad. I liked that effect on the card. Still it needed more. I had some party themed stickers, but I just didn’t like the way they blended with the blue, black and silver theme. I went back and forth with the stickers for a while.

I grabbed my Elmer’s sparkle glue and added a line where the patterned paper met the solid black paper on the front. I love glitter, but it can be messy. I’ve found that using glitter glue usually gives you close to the same results with a lot less of a mess! In the end I decided to put a ribbon there, but the sparkle glue actually was really neat. The silver ribbon was semi-sheer, so it was really neat that the blue sparkle showed through some. It also left a small line of sparkled blue glue along the sides of the ribbon. This wasn’t what I was starting out for, but I loved it as it went along! The ribbon was too plain so I added a small ribbon slider on to it and used the adhesive square to hold the slider to the ribbon. Under the ribbon was the sparkle glue, which takes a bit to dry, but now that it’s dry it’s SOLID! I think that about finishes the front of the card.. Let me see what to do with the inside of the card. Since I went with the blue, black and silver colors, it reminded me of snow. I live in the Midwest, so it’s ALWAYS cold and usually snowy on New Years Eve and New Years Day. It fit for me. I had a piece of handmade paper in white and a small scrap square of navy blue. I used a cute little swirl clip to spice it up. The papers were held down with my adhesive squares.

I still had white space on the front that I needed to finish. I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to put there. So I was going to go back afterwards. In the end I decided to take of the ’12 off the side and make a 2012 tag. I added am exclamation point after Happy New Year and then added a snowflake to fill the white space. Since the blue and black are hard to write on and have it seen, I grabbed a white marker, which worked perfectly! I always like to add a “Handmade by Bobbie” on the back of my cards. As you can see I added a few snowflakes to the front and make the card a little more 3-D, which is a personal preference of mine. I love anything that’s NOT flat!

I have to say, I went back and forth a few times moving things around. All in all I LOVE the card. There is something about blue and silver that makes them chime together so well for me. The card was pretty simple to make and I am thrilled with the results. I am sending this off to a friend of mine that has had a tough end of the year. I think she will appreciate this card as much as I appreciate her friendship!

You can view my Google+ album which contains pictures from my trip. I hope you’ve enjoyed this card making tutorial. More so, I hope that you will try a card of your own! It’s a fun and creative way to explore and I promise, those that receive the cards will talk about your handmade card for a while!

I believe when I started it was version 7 or 8… around there. Through the years I’ve watched Corel grow and I am now using version XII and hoping to upgrade to X3 soon! I’ve been the BIGGEST fan of Corel products. I’ve never been disappointed in a purchase I have made. At one point I lost my key (actually I lost the whole disc in a move, but could download a trial from the site). I called customer service and I was very upset and on the verge of tears. The customer service rep was SO helpful. She was able to retrieve my code from the online registration and activation and I was on my way.

Recently Corel released a new product called Paint It! You can purchase it online from them or in several retail stores. It’s fairly new. It was released on April 30, 2010. Quoted from Corel:

Ideally suited for photography enthusiasts, scrapbookers, families and creative minds of any age, Paint it! features art tools and painting presets that faithfully replicate their traditional counterparts and a user interface that is both simple and intuitive. This makes it easier than ever for anyone to use their photos to create unique digital art keepsakes that are perfect for framing or sharing as special gifts with family and friends.

I have to say, I think even people with very basic computer knowledge could use this program and create a masterpiece! It’s very simple. You open up your photo and then along the right are the different options. Some of the options you can chose are: pencil drawing, colored pencil, pastel, impressionist, detailed watercolor, oil painting and many more!

This is a photo of my kiddos. The top is the original and the bottom is the Paint it! version. I used the colored pencil drawing setting to get this. I thought this would be amazing on a t-shirt or tote bag! There are brushes in the program that you can use to create more effects, but this one was just a straight plug and play version.

In this photo of my god-daughter I actually used a different setting. This is the detailed water color. Sized down it’s missing a lot of the TRUE beauty, but it’s very nice. It would be PERFECT as a print! In fact, I am going to print this one… in a much bigger size, likely 8×10 or 10×13. I just LOVE the creative look on it!

I did this one of my daughter using the pastel drawing setting. I went in with a brush and changed the eyes a little bit because I thought that they got lost some. That is the beauty of this program though, you CAN go after and change things and add things. I love the versatility of it! Even if you are a beginner, all you have to do is open your photo, select the style, and push the “play” button. It goes ahead and transforms leaving an image that is ready to save!

You can visit Corel on the web and see their great selection of software for any project you may have.

This week has been pretty busy with school events. but I thought I would take some time tonight and scrap one of the events this week. It was the kids Spring Concert. Usually I don’t post pictures with kiddos that are not mine, but I think the faces are tiny enough that you probably can’t make them out. My kiddos are in the 1st and 3rd row toward the right side.

I used Bella Gypsy new kit, coming Monday to both Gotta Pixel and Elemental Scraps.

I also scrapped a picture of my daughter sitting on the couch reading. Reading is fundamental and SOOOO important for everyone. Reading is a skill we never should stop! I am glad that she loves books like I do so I couldn’t resist making a page for this.

I used Morning Meadow by Bella Gypsy. This is also coming out on Monday at both Gotta Pixel and Elemental Scraps. I love the colors in this kit and it’s amazingly easy to work with. My layout just “fell” together. Okay, that is all for now, I will be back tomorrow with some goodies!

I seem to be on a role with my scrapbooking lately. Recently Micheline Martin gave me this kit to work with. I did a page with it yesterday. My daughter LOVED the kit so today while she was at school I put myself to work and made her this:

She is going to be so excited when she gets home. It’s a little box that she can use to put her treasures in. I’ve let it on my kitchen island so when she comes home she can see it. I am betting I will get “This is SOOOOOOOO cool!” and then “Who is it for?” In which I will tell her it’s for HER. She will freak! She loves the project I do, but I don’t do nearly enough of them for her liking!!

This layout is entitled Friends are Forever. It is a photo of me and my best friend, Liz, at a Packer Game this year. It was an amazing time and I remember just the 2 of us walking through the HUGE crowds of fans. It was a blast. Some times we {as people} have trials in life and we have friends that get us through. Some times we don’t always agree with our friends, but when push comes to shove, true friends will find their way. This has been the case for Liz and I. We have disagreements, but we always end up stronger then ever in the end. I love you Liz!

Until next time bloggers…

I had my muscle biopsy on Tuesday. They took a 2″x2″ part from my left thigh. It was not a fun experience but I must say that this biopsy went WAY better then my liver biopsy. In short, that procedure was a nightmare. I was at the local Bellin Hospital, but the nurse was a bitch, they didn’t control my pain, and I begged to leave! Actually I didn’t beg, I demanded and then they agreed, I left and sent a nasty email the next day to the hospital coordinator. No reply, no shock! This time I was worried because I was going to a UW Hospital and if you’ve ever been to one, you know they are a MAD HOUSE!! They are clinics and a hospital all in one, they have students and staff and it’s like the BIGGEST place of medical personnel EVER! So to say that I was treated BETTER there, then I was at the local hospital which is like 1/8 of the size is just well… weird to me! Honestly, you’d think a smaller facility would be more personal then a large “your just a number” place. However, I was treated SO amazing at the UW Hospital that I could not even believe it. It was sort of surreal. First, I explained my desire to not use a full anesthesia because I end up sick for days after. The anesthesiologist was great in understanding and then explaining my options. She decided that it would be best for me to be “out of it” with some meds but conscience. I would not remember the procedure but wouldn’t get that sick feeling after. And they would numb the area on my leg because some people are more alert then others. I agreed this would be a good option. I didn’t get sick afterwards and I didn’t remember anything besides being brought into the OR. The nurse that put the IV in… I explained that my veins are small and I am not found of needles so I would appreciate only being “poked” once. They got the smallest needle and he did it, in JUST one try. He was so nice and amazing and UNDERSTANDING. Upon waking, within 20 minutes the nurse asked if I’d like something to eat or drink and it was delivered within MINUTES! The nurse was there every 5-10 minutes, not 45-60 minutes. They explained everything to me. They did NOT release me with a prescription, they faxed it directly to the pharmacy so I could get it on my way home. Even though I had a 3 hour drive there and a 3 hour drive back, it was by FAR the best experience I could have asked for, considering the situation. The next day the nurse called, she was so sweet. She also wasn’t convinced my pain was being managed by what I was telling her. She told me she would call me back on that. I NEVER said my pain was BAD or that the medicine wasn’t working, but I was answering her questions and said that I did have a burning feeling. She called me back within 45 minutes and said, changed medicines, we think this will work better. She also had some other suggestions to help me out. I couldn’t believe it. I am still kind of in shock over the whole way they treated me so GREAT.

Having said all that, I am home and recovering. My husband has been AMAZING the last 3 days and helping with everything around the house. In fact, I haven’t really moved off the recliner. He’s had me resting and treating me like a QUEEN. He’s so super amazing, it reminds me why I fell in love all over again.

I can not wait until next week when I can head back to the gym. I am changing from my Quick Trim pills to athermogenic fat burner. I stopped seeing results with Quick Trim and I am not going to continue spending money on something that has “stopped” working. I am hoping that I can lose this extra weight before summer. I just NEED to do it. My husband has again been supportive and being he is into the gym and supplements, he’s spent ALOT of time researching different things for me and he’s helping me along. Even though he says I do not need to worry about it, I do. It’s a personal thing for me.

I scrapped my ADSR 5 Challenge 6 layout today. Here’s a peak:

This layout was a HUGE challenge… just because they only allowed 4 of this and 4 of that and no more. I am not typically a person to use so many types but only 4 or 4 might be too many. It was a challenge, which is what it was supposed to be, but I a, okay with the final layout. I will be making a few changes to make it “me” and then I will be adding this to my printed book, because it is a good idea!

I also managed to scrap a layout using Bella Gypsy goodies that are coming SOON to Elemental Scraps. I love being on their CT. What a fun bunch of girls and what an AWESOME set of designers Lena and Tabitha are!! One of their new kits is called Blue Skies & Mud Pies… How cute huh? Here’s my page with it:

I’ve linked them both to my DSTGallery in case you’d like to leave me a comment there! I am so glad to be back scrapping again and it feels amazing! It’s been so nice and stress free! Even the ADSR challenges!! Okay bloggers, I will be back tomorrow with more! My meds are starting to kick in and it’s time for a girl to hit the pillow!!
