I have had Verizon as my cell phone provider for about 4 years. Prior to that I was stuck in a loop of providers. One provider had this and it was great, but by the time my 2 year contract was up.. I was done and ready to move on. There were problems with the carriers or devices and I just wasn’t happy. These days we NEED our phones to communicate. While I can agree with some people that there is no need for a cell phone, we can have a landline, I would have to say in a world that keeps moving cell phones are becoming the norm. Everyone has one. Landlines are being phased out.
Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Savers Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product. http://ad-for-verizon.com
Since I switched to Verizon 4+ years ago I have never been happier. My service is reliable and so is my phone. Until recently I had given up on phones. I had an iPhone and I stuck with that. It did everything I needed and I had service. When it was time for new I got a new iPhone. It wasn’t broke, I was happy and it didn’t need fixing. Recently I decided to plunge more into the Android market after having the Motorola Droid Ultra. It’s been a lot of fun learning the new device, but it’s also been a roller coaster finding the apps I needed for each task. I have found some apps I truly love and some I am glad to ditch. One of the things I miss most about my iPhone was the text messaging. I loved all the emoticons. I am guilty of being an addict to them. It’s the little things that make me happy. The android stock messaging app is really lacking in that area. While there are an array of 3rd party apps that can be used and come loaded with emoticons, they also come with loads of other features and things I didn’t really care for.
Earlier this month Verizon announced Verizon Messages. I don’t know that anyone would be as excited as I was about this little app. Of course I looked through everything on the web about it and read the email announcing it completely. I have to say, I was pretty excited to give this app a test drive.
Of course when I launched the app (which I downloaded free in the Play Store) I immediately tried to compose a text message. When I did that I noticed some other neat features. Of course there was the emoticons, which won my heart over instantly! Then I see the options to send a post card, picture, voice message. Glympse (real-time locations) and more. I truly loved it. Then as I dug in to the picture part a little more I noticed that I could write on my photos!
So I was pretty amused by this.. I fell in love with the Verizon Messages app. It’s flawless and offers so many features. The biggest feature and probably one of my top favorites is that with Verizon Messages I can keep my conversations going without having my phone! In the event I need to charge it, it breaks or some other reason, I can continue to get messages through my computer and/or tablet. It’s an awesome feature! It does send messages across the board.. meaning that just because it’s Verizon Messages doesn’t mean that I cannot sent a text message to someone on another carrier. That means this can replace the basic plain texting app that comes preloaded on my Android device.
There are many other features that make Verizon Messaging an app that you will want to have! Here’s a few more of the ones I find super useful and fun:
- Save and retrieve your text and multimedia messages using an SD card, or restore your messages from online
- Search recipient information and message content to find important messages
- Quickly preview web links without leaving the conversation
- Mute a conversation to silence notifications
- Report spam in one easy step (how neat is this!!)
- Set an auto-reply message to avoid distraction when you’re driving or away from your phone
- Personalize your messages with signatures or a personal quote
- Get creative and personalize your notifications, conversation bubbles and background colors, font sizes, and more
- Experience seamless transitions from device to device
- Stay connected with family and friends by sending messages to international numbers
- Use Wi-Fi to send and receive messages on the web or your tablet if you are out of the country or outside of Verizon coverage
This app is amazing and it was definitely a step forward of Verizon to release an app that does all of this for it’s loyal customers. I no longer need to have an iPhone or a 3rd party app to send emoticons. I can trust this app is stable with Verizon backing the app built by them.
