The Big Spring Clean: Create Space and Make Money

spring cleaning

Winter is here and we hear about Spring Cleaning all the time. For as long as I can remember spring cleaning in our house. When I lived at home with my parents it was always a big thing for us. We cleaned for HOURS and we donated so much stuff. Living in the Midwest and it being cold and snowy in the winter months, I’ve taken to my cleaning during the winter months. I prefer to save that spring time for opening the windows and getting out of the house when I can generally do that in the winter months.

Now that I am on my own with my family, I find that a yearly purge is really necessary. We have toys that are no longer used, games that are no longer played, clothes that no longer fit and things we just plain don’t use anymore. I started looking in to trading or selling ds games and other electronics. I really like to make a little bit on everything we have bought that has a heavy price tag. I still end up donating a ton of stuff, but making a little bit of money is nice. Music Magpie buys a lot of electronics, CD’s DVD’s and more. I still have yet to be able to get the kids to understand why they can’t take the money and get MORE stuff all the time. The point in this whole “cleaning” process is to PURGE not replace. Some day they will understand!

Do you spring clean or do you winter clean like me? Do you make the cleaning and purging a family wide thing or do you tend to do it alone so you really can get rid of the things that aren’t played with?

  1. I’m an all the time cleaning, girl. I go through things CONSTANTLY and donate, get rid of, and deep clean. I’ve never understood the concept of spring cleaning, as I have to do it all the time. Joanne calls me “the trasher.” I keep nothing, ditch everything! LOL
