POST: Family Game Time – What’s Your Game?

My family really enjoys family game nights. We’d like to have them more often, but with my husband’s work schedule it seems to be 2 times a month that we can actually make it happen. It’s always been a lot of fun for the both kids and us. The kids are really into bingo games, since they often play them at school. I love watching them interact though. They get so excited that the next letter and number will be their chance to yell BINGO! Something I always remember from my childhood is the games that we played as children and with our parents. It wasn’t very often, which is why I really wanted to implement a family game time into our household. Even if it’s not every single week, we make time, we schedule it, the kids know it’s coming and they are excited for it.

When we aren’t playing bingo, we tend to stick to the old fashion games. I really love the classic board and card games and they seem to be a favorite for everyone, so why not? There really is very little resistance in a game of Go Fish or Solitaire (we work together as a team on a game). I think that we’ve gotten so far away from the simple games with many of the new electronic games, video games and computers. It’s fun to sit back, unplugged, and relax for some quality bonding and fun time. We recently went out and bought Scrabble for the kids. This seems to be a game they are in to a lot these days too. They play each other on their iPod Touches and I thought, why not get a board game. They love it. Of course we bend the rules, because we let them play names and other words that aren’t necessarily within the rules. We tend to stray away from rooms with most games though, it adds a lot more fun and usually allows the kids to win, which in turn makes them very excited. As a parent, that face is priceless!
