{REVIEW} Great Harvest Whole Grain Bread

Great Harvest Bread, OneScrappyMom, onescrappymom.comLast weekend we headed up north for the weekend with the kids. There is a Great Harvest Bread Company on the way up there and I really wanted to stop and try some of the bread. I am a HUGE fan of fresh made bread, specially bread that is nutritious!  When we arrived, we looked at the counter where they had all the different varieties of bread. Great Harvest grinds premium, high protein wheat kernels daily into fresh and flavorful whole grain flour. The fresh flour is then baked into whole grain breads and other whole grain products (like cookies) within 48 hours. Because they do make everything literally from scratch, everything is fresh. We took with us Cinnamon Raisin bread that was literally less then an hour out of the oven. It was so delicious! I didn’t even butter mine in the morning for breakfast, I sliced and ate it. The kids loved to butter it and put a little cinnamon sugar on it and loved it. There are ZERO additives, preservatives or dough conditioners in Great Harvest’s bread. While this means that the taste is amazing, don’t try to “stock up” on it. The shelf life is only about 7 to 10 days. For us that’s not a problem because we go through a loaf every 4-5 days. However, grabbing an extra loaf (unless I freeze it, which I have no tried), isn’t really any option.

It’s worth the drive though. Eating whole grains is beneficial for many reasons. Losing weight, being healthy and living longer are the major benefits. Good carbs means good health and you get good carbs from whole grains! Good carbs are digested slowly, gradually delivering sugars as a steady source of energy throughout the day. They make us feel fuller soon and longer, which reduces our calorie intake.

We tried both the Cinnamon Raisin and the Honey Whole Wheat (which is the top seller). Both of them were delicious (and gone within a day)! You can check out more about Great Harvest and find a location near you by checking their website!
