And So It Rained, Poured, Flooded…

Yesterday afternoon we had some pretty severe storms. There was hail that was gum ball size and even bigger in some areas. We live in the Midwest, you are bound to get some storms. We lost power briefly for a few minutes about 3-4 times. I normally wouldn’t blog about this type of thing, but for some STRANGE reason I am inclined to…

After the storm, this is what the bottom of the driveway looks like:

Driveway
We live up on a raised area or a little hill if you will, so we never get much in the yard. The driveway is a nightmare though! The water was shin deep… Yeah, let’s use body parts for measuring! Down the road a little, it looked like this:

Road
There are no curbs. Water pools are just up on the front lawns and the ends of driveways are missing. It was fun for the kids though. They were {even some before the storm STOPPED} riding bikes and playing in it. Personally this is as wonderful as sewer water and my kids would not be found playing in this mess, but to each their own right?!

My husband had to leave for work, mind you his truck is an SUV and it does have additional “height” on it, this standing water was STILL up to the bottom of his truck!

Truck
What a nice mess huh? It took several hours for a lot of the water to go down the drains. There was still quite a few standing pools of water this morning and several cars stalled in the middle of the roads. But alas it was a storm, right? That was until I was brought this:

Soaked Nintendo DS Case & Games
I was not brought this tonight, around oh… 7:00pm! Yes, this is my son’s Nintendo DS case and 11 games that were inside… all. SOAKED! I have no idea if any of them will work again. I can only imagine the amount of money LOST in this case. I am so upset, depressed and everything in the middle. I can not BELIEVE he got outside with this in the first place, but he did. It was in the clubhouse when it stormed. A clubhouse that is not 100% protected from elements. Please pray these dry… for MY sanity!

The only thing I could suggest is to toss them all in a container of rice to draw out the water! =(

Ouch! I bought PSP’s for my kids (and one for me) and only a few months after we got them they snuck them off to their cousins house when they went for a sleepover.

They came back with one broken screen and one with the little piece that holds the memory card in snapped off and some dents from them being dropped who knows how many times – Which is why they were not allowed to bring them over to their (Very destructive with no respect for expensive things) cousins house in the first place!

  3. Alison says:

Oh no I am so sorry! I second the rice. Just let them dry… my fingers are crossed that they will work again!

The games should be fine – we wash our in the washer ALL THE TIME! Just get them really dry before trying them.

My daughter dropped the DS in a bucket of water and I used a blow dryer, alcohol, and a bag of rice and revived it!

    Good Luck.

Thanks Shasta! I have them in rice right now! I hope they dry out well. We’ve washed an OLD Game Boy Advance game (and put it in the dryer) and it was okay. I was hoping that these would be okay!!

I hope they dry out for you. I totally understand about it being for your sanity. I just washed and dried a game and it was still OK. I’d be more worried about the actual system. Hopefully sitting in rice for a few days will do the trick.

I have a suggestion, call Nintendo and explain what happened ( you have pics of the flood if needed.) You might be surprised… they could replace them…might ask you to send the broken ones in, etc. It’s worth a try! My friends son cracked/scratched a new Wii game and Nintendo was very nice and replaced it no charge. It’ll work out!!

  7. Tammy says:

Good luck with that…Was it just the games and case? My son just bought a new DSXL just the other day…I can ask him if he would like to send your son his extra case. Let me know…:)

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. We live on a dirt road that I did not realize when I bought the house, but the road is not maintained by the city or county. So, when it rains a lot, we get huge rivers that last days on end and you always get stuck in the ditches.

I bought my two oldest DS Lites for Christmas and both of them are gone! No idea where, we have literally cleaned every nook and cranny of the house and nothing, so I understand how you are feeling. I hope the games dry out and you get to keep your sanity. :)
