The Intimidator

On Friday my husband went out to get the mail. I suspected the usual, a few pieces of junk, some bills, and maybe a catalog or 2. I wasn’t surprised as this is exactly what he brought in. I was surprised when he opened up the Public Service bill though. It was only $52.00. Now normally I wouldn’t discuss things of this nature on my blog, but this story left me chuckling and I am sure it will leave you chuckling too, so here I will share the story! Last month, the bill seemed a little high, but we just paid it thinking we just used more service or whatnot, that does happen some months, especially when you do have kids. They leave lights on when they exit rooms, we have 3 PC’s that are always on, and multiple other things that constantly run. So I thought nothing of it. It happens every now and again. However, I’ve NEVER gotten a bill of $52.00 and to ensure this was correct and I didn’t get a DOUBLE bill next month I proceeded to call Public Service and see what the deal was. I know alot of people are saying just pay it and leave it be, but when you live on a budget, I can’t afford for them to catch this mistake, all be it theirs months later. What I was told left me in awe and tears! Here’s the conversation that took place:

Me: “Yes, I am calling because my bill is only $52.00 and it appears this is a billing error.”

Public Service Rep: “Let me look at the account.”

Me: “Ok.”

Public Service Rep: “Ma’am, it appears that we had to estimate the usage on your bill the previous month. For this you had a credit on this month, thus leaving the unpaid balance at $52.00.”

Me: “Why did you estimate the charges? They read the meter every month. Was the meter inaccessible?”

Public Service Rep: “Ma’am, the notes state that your dog was outside and very intimating to the meter reader.”

Me: “Are you serious? He’s only 20 pounds! BLAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA”

Public Service Rep: “We would appreciate in the future if you could keep him tied up.”

Me: “Um, he was. But thanks. Good Bye.”

So folks, you see that cute little face up there in the corner, be careful… he’ll get you!! He’s dubbed the name “The Intimidator” now. Hubby told him that if he can lower the bills ever month he can continue to live here. Although we do have to remember the time he took care of the mice. That was scary. Maybe I don’t give him enough credit for the situation. However, I do leash my dog when he’s outside because he loves to play with rabbits, squirrels and other animals his size. So even though he’s in a fence, he would dig his way out! I still get a chuckle out of this. We have had the dog 3+ years and this has NEVER been an issue, but I guess we need to be more respectful of the meter reader. Maybe she needs treats like the mailman! He loves the mailman! I would have PAID to have a camcorder to catch this scene! I always miss the good stuff!
