Dear Internet

[ 2 ] December 17, 2009

Today’s world is so much more sophisticated then the world was years ago. Many people these days are into the internet and some sort of social networking. I’ve had my site here OneScrappyMom.com for 3 years. Prior to getting this domain I was on a public free domain on blogspot. I’ve had several other sites as well, some that I have co-ran with friends. I’ve met alot of people in my time on the net. I’ve met some AMAZING people and I’ve met some well, not so wonderful people. But it all comes in the territory of the internet. People are free to do and say what they want and often hide behind the fact that they are just typing something and not held accountable because the person reading will never face them. Many stay at home moms have turned together and are “mommy bloggers”. Even some moms that are working, we really don’t discriminate, come one come all, we are just social bugs that love to talk, and that is JUST what we do. We harbor together in groups and TALK. We support each other in good times and in bad times, we are always there for each other. Social Networking is an outlet for many people, including myself. Everyone has a different situation. In my particular situation, my husband works swing shift, and although he’s VERY supportive and loving, when I am home for 12 hours and in need of support, I turn to several of my fellow mommy bloggers. This can be my Blog, Facebook or my Twitter. I have a Blackberry, so if I am on the go and stressed, I can access these tools and do. It’s what I do. While both my blog and Twitter are public, most people that follow me are friends and family or are from the “mommy” community. If you are just someone that follows me and I post something that I am looking for support on, by all means, feel free to comment, but do NOT bash me for a post or tweet ment for family, friends and supporters.

Recently this happened on Twitter. An amazing woman, Shellie (@Military_Mom) who has a husband that is FIGHTING for OUR freedom, and getting ready to deploy in Iraq had a need for support and posted to her fellow followers and supporters. I had never commented to her before but had been familiar with her from MomDot.com. I followed her on Twitter, she was after all a fellow mommy blogger. When her post for support came, my heart sank and I felt the need to communicate with her, and I did. I’m sure she’s overwhelmed with replies, but I ment every word. Then out of no where comes personal attacks. People questioning WHY she reached out to her social networking group, her friends. I don’t see the rational in this. The world is filled with hate. Who are we to put someone on the exam table in their time of need? Not only that but if you don’t like what someone has to say, STOP following them, ignore the post, etc. There is NO need to attack someone!!

Social Networking is part of life. It’s what we do, it’s who we are. To those of you that are part of my social network family, I love each and every one of you. You have helped my sanity in more ways then you know. To those of you that follow me and haven’t said a word, I am a social bug, say hello. To those of you who follow people looking for drama, or looking for something, just move on… no one want to deal with you or your pettiness.

Much love to my fellow mommy bloggers, bloggers, twitter friends, and especially Mrs Shellie Ross & Family!!
